From 1 July 2026, an request for access under the Victorian FOI Act must be accompanied by an application fee of $34.50-.
The Treasurer published in the Victorian Government Gazette on 5 May 2026 that a fee unit will increase to $17.27 from 1 July 2026. An application fee under the FOI Act is 2 fee units, but the product of that multiplication (2x$17.27=$34.54) has to be rounded to the nearest 10 cents under the Monetary Units Act 2004 – $34.50.
Victorian government agencies should ensure any published material or any other outward facing information about making an FOI request for access is suitably amended. Please also note the impact this change will have on certain access charges calculated by reference to a “fee unit”.
