Tackling the challenges of 3rd party consultations
Morning videoconference session
Consulting with third parties is a significant part of processing an FOI request. Under the Victorian FOI Act, there are certain exemptions that require the agency to consult with the relevant third party as party and consider their view in determining whether the exemption applies. In some instances consultation may not be required.
This session will explain why consultation is important, when you may not need to consult, and provide guidance on how to tackle the administrative and legal challenges relating to it including coverage of:
- When must you consult?
- What are the requirements for consultation?
- How do you manage the flow on effects after sending a consultation letter?
- Are there privacy risks and how do you manage them?
- Practical tips for best practice
The videoconference will be conducted using WebEx (end to end encryption). For information about how this will work, click here for FAQs.
